Many of Alpha Omega's sisters had the honor of attending the Southeast District Convention in Birmingham, Alabama. Here's some of our chapter's highlights!

AO won the 2019 SED Leadership Development Award

Alpha Omega received this award in recognition of the continued leadership of our sisters within our chapter and the College of Music that we serve.

Our sisters in the past year have held leadership positions within the Marching Chiefs including row leader, section leader, staff, and an assistant drum major. We also have many sisters who are employed at the College of Music. These jobs include administrative tasks in the FSU band office, instrument maintenance and rentals in the instrument library, and ushering concerts at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. On top of this, our sisters sit in many concert bands such as the University Campus Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Orchestra, and Philharmonia.

This past year, one of Alpha Omega’s goals has been to create a more well-rounded sisterhood through the implementation of “themed GBMs” throughout each semester. This typically looks like a normal GBM with a predetermined committee presenting on topics that the sisterhood could benefit from. Although this is still a work in progress, these presentations have ultimately been a success thus far, with topics including the history of our sisterhood songs, the meaning and history behind MOTS, singing techniques, and general professional development.

Sisters Sierra Corby and Cory Schuman with Siobhan Wilkes, National VP for Communication and Recognition

Alpha Omega consistently has sisters attending all the conventions available to them. Two summers ago, we had sisters represent us at the National Convention in Orlando, FL. On the district level, we constantly have groups of 15 to 20 sisters attend DLC and the SED convention. This past February, Alpha Omega had the honor of hosting DLC at FSU with our brothers in Gamma Nu, which has received very positive feedback from those in attendance. In addition to attendance at these conventions, Alpha Omega is proud to have sisters serving on the SED council in many capacities. Nicole Warren served as the SED Vice President of Membership for the 2018-2019 school year. We have many alumni who are influenced by Tau Beta Sigma so much that they continue to pursue these positions after graduating—Lee Commander, Neil Bleiweiss, MiChel Causey, Kathleen Elwell, and Vivian El-Salawy, to name a few. We have sisters constantly showing interest in running for district council positions and being on district committees to serve beyond Alpha Omega.

This is an award that our chapter is very honored to receive and we hope to continue upholding this standard of excellence in leadership in the years to come.

Nicole Warren became the 2019-2020 SED President

Nicole, who served as the 2018-2019 SED Vice President of Membership, was elected and officially installed as the SED President for the coming term. Her platform consists of emphasizing what the SED stands for (Strength, Excellence, and Diversity) and using those points to better the district's communication, participation, and representation in various aspects.

We are proud of the work that Nicole has done and we are excited to see where this next term in her new position takes her. Congratulations!

Thank you to the Theta Theta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Eta Lambda chapter of Tau Beta Sigma for putting on a fun and informative 2019 SED Convention. We look forward to seeing you all in Callaway Gardens in 2020!
