Alpha Omega was recently featured in the national "Tau Beta Tuesday" Newsletter sent out to all members of Tau Beta Sigma. Here's what the national council had to say about our Adopt-A-Band program at Godby High School:
"The Tau Beta Sigma National Programs give our chapters the opportunity to share their musicianship, and serve their respective communities through music. In the months to come, we will showcase chapters who have completed our National Programs in new and exciting ways and the impact they have on the community.
First up we have the Alpha Omega Chapter from Florida State University, who have taken our Crescendo: A Musical Youth Initiative to the next level!
“The Alpha Omega Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma started an Adopt-A-Band program this fall! Godby High School is a Title One school in Tallahassee, FL that has no funding for clinicians. Our Sisterhood goes weekly to hold music and marching sectionals, clean drill, and most importantly, provide encouragement and mentorship to these students. Alpha Omega strives to provide consistent support for this program and their director, as he runs this program by himself.
Besides going to weekly practices, we will host a reception for the band after their marching MPA to congratulate them for their hard work. Moving into spring, AO will start going to band classes and holding sectionals to work on concert band music and teach basic instrument fundamentals. We invite the Brothers of the Gamma Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi to participate with us in this program to strengthen unity, and be able to provide as many role models to these students as possible. This program has been inspiring to our Sisterhood and has allowed us to give back to the youth of our community through the love of music.”
